When is a finger dressing not for a finger?

Finger dressings are really great for those cuts that you get on your fingers where it needs more than a sticky plaster but it really doesn’t need a large bandage and it would be really inconvenient to have your whole hand bandaged  up.

But they can be useful for so many other things as well.

So when is a finger dressing not for a finger? ...... Well whenever you decide!

So often we get hung up on using the “right thing” from our first aid kit for the “right reason” but so often that doesn’t serve us, it limits our creative thinking.

If we think there is a “right way” to do something that also means there has to be whole heap of “wrong ways” but what if that  just wasn’t the case?

What if we just see first aid as an opportunity to do some problem solving, with many, many possible options?

Suddenly that feels a lot more empowering and helps to take away all that fear that we secretly  have, like “what if I forget what to do?” “What if I make do it wrong and make it worse and end up in trouble?”

If it’s just problem solving then a lot of these just no longer apply, and that makes it easier for us to take action when it really matters!

So when is a finger dressing not for a finger?

How about when someone grazes their knee,

Or what about when someone scrapes the heal of their hand , it’s virtually impossible to get a plaster to stick there!

How about a sore toe!

Or how about when a child bumps their head and there’s a  little cut  just above their eyebrow. A plaster is no good there and we don’t really want a big  bandage but a finger dressing could be perfect!

So don’t get too hung up on what something “should” be used for, instead spend some time thinking  “how else could I use this?”

So when is a finger dressing not for a finger? ........ whenever you decide it!
